Hamilton County is located in the central north part of New York. It is within the Adirondack State Park, as most of the county consists of parkland. It is the third largest county in New York by area. Hamilton County has a total area of approximately 1808 square miles of which 95% is land and 5% water. As of the census of 2000, there were 5,379 people, 2,362 households, and 1,558 families residing in Hamilton County, New York. It is the least populous county out of New York's 58 counties, and one of the least populated counties in the entire eastern region of the U.S.
